Symbian OS clamshell smartphone is a long-waiting product for some smartphone fans. In the past, only oriental choices are available. The proposed models are from Samsung or Panasonic only. Now the anticipation includes the 6260 from Nokia. 

In the product preview show ¡¥Nokia Connection 2004¡¦ held in June 2004 in Singapore and Helsinki, Finland, the 6260 is one of the three clamshell designed phones for the second half 2004. The phone itself is positioned as a professional model with extraordinary style. The folder type screen can be turn up and down and even rotated 270 degrees to create a very special looking. This kind of phone is not a very new type if we notice the evolution for Asian phones. Samsung and LG have such design starting from last two years! However, it is also a good try for Nokia itself. The rotary screen has its own features. 270 degree, downward ¡¥L¡¦ mode is for the instant photo taking. The camera in the left hand side will be then turned on automatically. Just one click to capture a snap shot. The totally flat panel full screen mode is for easy internet browsing and picture viewing. Also, such styles are so attractive too if we switch the screen in front of your friend and the public.

Nokia 6260 is a Symbian OS smartphone utilizing the Series 60 platform from Nokia itself. That¡¦s why we see some good and bad things. The big screen can be found. The 2.2¡¦ inch 176 x 208 pixels TFT 65k color display allows the users view graphics and texts comfortably. However, it also applied the size of the phone cannot be small. The standard function keys for a Series 60 phone are location under the screen. It enlarges the phone actual volume. The keys position is another interesting talking point for the new users. For example, we can find 2 power on/off keys in two special location like the right hand corner of the screen and at the back of the phone. The SIM card is also located at the top of the clamshell. 

In the first launch day, we cannot find any detail for OS and platform version for Nokia 6260. We only know it should have the standard Symbian features like VGA camera, email and MMS clients etc. The model number 6xxx by Nokia is more for the pro-sumer. That is why we can find the major enhancements from 6260 clamshell are the mainly work related. The newly added ¡¥Push to talk¡¨ feature allow instant group communication and person-to-person chatting. The email client with VPN support enables the users to handle the emails from company email accounts. Nokia 6260 is the third proposed Series 60 phone includes built in documents readers. The Quickpoint and QuickWord can be found in the phone for easy viewing for PowerPoint and MS Word document. The phone also comes with a MMC card slot. A 32MB MMC card will be included in the sales package. The phone also includes a built-in FM radio and MP3 player. The enhancement session in Nokia official 6260 website tells us the phone support stereo headset, implying that stereo music playback is possible. Also, it is also happy to find IrDA port is available for that phone to easier data transfer.
